What happens when your spouse files for divorce, yet you believe the marriage can be saved? There is a mechanism in Arizona that allows time for serious reflection and counseling. Either party can file a petition for conciliation counseling.
During this time, even if one spouse objects to the petition, all ongoing proceedings are paused for sixty days. The parties may seek marriage counseling, therapy, or deep reflection on whether or not the marriage can be saved.
If after the 60 day period no resolution is possible, either spouse can decided to move forward with the dissolution, over potential objections of the other spouse. While this petition cannot guarantee your marriage will be saved, it usually allows enough time for both spouses to process and digest the finality of their marriage ending.
