No matter the legal situation, there is once constant refrain of advice; hire an attorney. Easier said than done however, what should you look for when hiring an attorney. In family law scenarios you are not only are you letting them into your family affairs, you are entrusting them to guide you to a resolution of those affairs. So what type of things should you look for in an attorney?
- Trust: If you cannot trust your attorney how can you work with him in your case?
- Ability to Communicate: Communication with attorney in you is a must, if you cannot communicate honestly with the attorney you hire he cannot effectively represent you. An attorney should also provide candid and realistic advice, no sugarcoating.
- Goals: Your attorney should have a good understanding of what you hope to achieve and help guide you to those goals. Though as your attorney in you better interest should be able to point out those goals that could possibly carry consequences for you in the future.
- Confidence in your Attorney: Court proceedings can be intimidating experiences; you should feel comfortable with your attorney and be able to trust and have confidence in his ability to guide you through your case.
Picking an attorney is not about shopping around for the most expensive or charismatic attorney, but rather finding someone you are comfortable with, and who you feel can help you achieve the goals you have in mind.
